The next version of Android is not called “Ice Cream” – Andy Rubin

It appears that Google’s Andy Rubin may have leaked the name of the next Android OS to Michael Arrington and Jason Kincaid of TechCrunch a while back. It came about in a conversation about the then future release of the Google Nexus S, which has now been launched.

We know that Google names their OS’s after desserts, looking back, Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb…and now the next version…Drum roll please.

Ice Cream Sandwich!

Yes, I know, you say you’ve heard “Ice Cream” already. But Andy Rubin passed the added “Sandwich” in the name during conversation. If you think about it, they really would make things difficult when trying to differentiate the logos of Froyo and Ice Cream, so adding Sandwich at the end makes perfect sense, easy to identify, and making me want one as I write this post. ;)

There you have it, Ice Cream Sandwiches for all!
Time will tell the tale…
